A few years ago, we had one of our closets turned into a little secret “home office” work space. We added some built-in shelves and a desktop into the closet. However, we never really paid much attention to the work space and it become sort of a “catch all” in our house. We recently had our major built-in desk installed in our family room, and this poor little work space was feeling some major desk envy!

From the outside, it looks like a basic, average closet when the doors are on and closed.

Here’s what I started with for this makeover. Besides adding the shelves and desktop, we never really took the time to make it look and feel like it should…. Until now!
Before I started, I made a mood board to get a grasp on what I wanted exactly:

I began by painting the closet walls to give it some color.

Ahhh… Already starting to look better!
I hit up Cost Plus World Market for some fresh new decor to revamp our space! After reviewing their Small Spaces Guide, I was ready to shop! I was so inspired by their gorgeous Supernatural Collection!
So here it is…

I LOVE it!
One of my “must haves” for this space was storage storage storage. I added several Natural Hyacinth Sabina Baskets to store and hide everything that I didn’t want out in the open on the desk. These baskets are life savers! I also picked up this awesome Wire Mason Log Basket to add style and functionality to the space.
Cost Plus World Market’s home accessories were perfect to add some character… I’m obsessed!

The cozy sheepskin rug and the modern chair add the exact details I want.

I was able to add some personality with this beautiful ceramic potter planter, and ampersand decor.

How fun and unique is this lamp?! I love finding different pieces to spice things up a bit!

Having a clock was another “must have” to keep me on track. I was so excited when I found this perfect one!

Decorative accessories make me happy, so of course I needed to add this fabulous hourglass sand timer and terrarium!

I just love the space – and I know its days of being a “catch all” spot are over. We’ve got the storage we need and the style we want!

I just came across this post, so I hope you’re still monitoring its comments! Very nicely done. Do you have any tips on the shelving and desktop? That’s the critical piece I’m missing to get started on my own cloffice. Thank you!
Hi Denise! Thanks so much! Feel free to email me at thecofranhome@gmail.com and let me know what sort of tips you’re looking for (material, sizing, etc)! I’m happy to help!
We are foster parent to a 5 yr old boy and his 11 year old sister. We go through a ton of food in this household. We have a small recessed area in the hall between two bedrooms that has cabinets (upper and lower) and it is from the floor to the ceiling. The cabinets are so deep and tall that when we put things in these cabinets, things get lost. I do know that this article is about an office but we need help. Thank you so much for any suggestions or comments. Debby Conner
Looks great. Clever idea. How do you plug everything in? Did you put an electrical outlet in the closet? Our is it all battery operated? I didn’t see any extension cords.
Nevermind I see it was hard work now.
