Joe and I have been thinking about adding wainscoting and repainting our entire living room, dining room, and family room for quite a while – but you know… life tends to get in the way of those sorts of projects! Now that a lot of things in our life have calmed down, and Joe has a little more time at home, we decided to take the plunge (eeee!). Our all blue paint job has treated us well for the past 5 years, but we are definitely ready for a refresh!
We spent the better part of 2 days moving furniture, covering furniture, taping, spackling and sanding (the not so glamorous side of painting).
Lot’s of work, but well worth it.
We had a friend of a friend (who specializes in wood working) come over and cut and nail the wainscoting trim on our walls when we were done with the prep work.
We had a day in between the wainscoting and painting (cue awkward comments from our visitors about how they “love the colors we picked….”) YIKES! Don’t worry, we are not leaving our house a striped disaster. I think they all breathed a sigh of relief when we told them that. Ha!
Our neighbor is a professional painter, so he brought over his big spray gun and sprayed all the wainscoting white. He used a semi-gloss, Benajmin Moore paint and I AM IN LOVE! It’s not even done yet, and I’m obsessed. It makes our house so much lighter and brighter. Because he sprayed the paint on instead of applied it with a brush, it is nice and smooth and so even.
Joe and I are tackling painting the top part of the walls (and ceilings) by ourselves.
My goal is LIGHT and BRIGHT. I love consistency through the house, so we decided to paint the top the same color in all 3 rooms. The color we picked is Sherwin-Williams Light French Gray.
I CANNOT wait until we are done and I can post the finished rooms!
Update: See the finished rooms here!
